Starlings Ballet

This is the video put together by Graeme that shows the ballet of the starlings. It was helping us to think how we could relate to each other and how the dance is not dependent on one person but the whole being orchestrated by God.

The thing that struck me as I watched the video this morning was that no one bird was in charge and that as different birds went one way or another the flock followed and yet there was a beauty in the whole it wasn't a haphazard mess. It was as though Jesus could have been conducting the flight. The other thing that just occured to me is that if you were one of the birds it is probably very noisy, crowded and extremely busy being in the middle which may be how we feel sometimes and yet when we are able to stand back the overall affect can beautiful.

I was thinking about this T.S. Eliot quote in relation to the starlings; the personal courage it takes each one of them (of us?)to be a part of a dynamic life. I am quite cowardly by nature, so this sounds great, but I know I need a lot of prompting from God to live like that.
I like the idea of the starlings only needing seven other birds as reference points - that takes some of the fear out of the scale of it all.

"There is another way, if you have the courage.
The first I could describe in familiar terms
Because you have seen it, as we all have seen it,
Illustrated, more or less, in lives of those about us.
The second is unknown, and so requires faith
The kind of faith that issues from despair.
The destination cannot be described;
You will know very little until you get there;
You will journey blind. But the way leads towards possession
Of what you have sought for in the wrong place."
